After my Social Media Fast

October 18, 2018

On October 6th, President Nelson (of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - my church!) asked us to go on a social media fast for 10 days. He didn't say when it had to happen, but encouraged us to take on the challenge. I started the fast on Sunday, October 7th and just broke it - here are a few of the thoughts I posted on Instagram about it:

"Social media should be a place that helps you, that uplifts you, that connects you. During the last 10 days, I realized HOW FREAKING MUCH I missed you all! I have relied on all of your positivity and kindness over the last few years and really missed connecting with you!✨

Buuuuuuuut, I also realized how much the comparison game was messing with my head! While I missed so many of my friends here, I also felt so FREE, not worrying about how my clothes or pictures or words or feed compared to anyone else. I didn’t stress out about what to post or when or what others might think.

There is too much good here to leave. I have made so many friends here and you guys have been a HUGE blessing in my life. But if you feel like social media is causing any negative feelings:

- Don’t mindlessly scroll. I realized that was a huge time suck for me.
- Connect with others in a positive way. Let’s make social media SOCIAL again!
- Unfollow/mute accounts that contribute to negative feelings. YOU have control over your social media world! If you don’t want to hurt feelings by unfollowing, the mute button is a super handy way to help.

I hope hope hope that I haven’t caused anyone to feel negatively or to get caught in a comparison game with me. I don’t have it all together and I’ll gladly share all my imperfections with you!! My whole purpose here is to make friends, share thoughts and help you see HOW FREAKING INCREDIBLE YOU ARE!💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Have you taken a break from social media? What happened for you? How do you have a positive experience here?? I want to hear about your experiences & thoughts!❤️"
